Frequently asked questions

How do I prepare for my first visit?

First and foremost- please do not clean your house. I repeat DO NOT tidy up. I understand this phase of life and very much expect to see piles of laundry and dirty dishes. I find that working together in the space where you most often feed your baby is helpful. If you do not feel comfortable with that, we can of course have our visit wherever you prefer. Having your partner present for our first visit can be helpful. If you are able, it would also be helpful to gather any records of your baby’s weights (from the hospital and/or at clinic visits).

What will you bring to my home?

A portable, high quality infant scale, a backpack of various supplies, and an eagerness to build a meaningful relationship with you and your family.

Why the name Rooted?

I have always been drawn to the beauty in the roots of trees. They offer nourishment, strength, and connection, all needs during postpartum. I believe deeply in the value of home based care. I figure that an unwavering, firmly rooted tree is a wonderful metaphor for the care I aim to provide- care that has a steadying effect for families, in a time of much change, so that they can feel strong and confident as they grow.

How much does it cost?

Prices start at $45 for virtual visits and range to $300 for a postpartum package (which includes two visits). If you are interested in working together and would like more information, including a fee schedule, please send me an email or fill out the form on the contact page.

What makes care with Rooted different?

As an experienced nurse-midwife, I am able to assess, diagnose and treat breastfeeding and postpartum related concerns. Working outside of the standard clinic setting, we are unhurried and able to truly personalize your care. You are not rushed to tell me your story, and I am able to observe your baby in their own space.

I once overheard my two year old saying “does that sound like an ok plan?” to one of her dolls. I realized that phrase has spilled over from my professional to my personal life. You will likely hear me ask you that question in our time together. I am not in the business of making strict plans and handing them to folks to carry out on their own. I believe in partnering with families to find the way forward that is right for them and sticking around for the journey.
